This is the personal website of Cris Lanting. It is intentionally boring from a data-protection point of view. Last updated: July 3, 2026.

What this site collects

Nothing personal. This site sets no tracking cookies, shows no ads, and loads no third-party fonts or scripts on regular pages — everything is served from crisly.nl.

Analytics. Visits are counted with GoatCounter, an EU-based service that uses no cookies and stores no personally identifiable information. It records aggregate data only: which pages were viewed, referrer, browser type, country, and screen size. There is no way for me (or GoatCounter) to identify or follow an individual visitor.

Preferences. If you change the colour palette, dark mode, or reading font, that choice is stored in your own browser (localStorage) and is never transmitted anywhere. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Server logs. The web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested page, timestamp) for security and troubleshooting, as virtually every website does. These are not used for profiling and are deleted on the hosting provider’s normal rotation schedule.

The one exception

The publications page loads citation badges from Altmetric and Dimensions. When you visit that page, your browser contacts their servers, which see your IP address like any web request. If you prefer to avoid this, a content blocker will block the badges without breaking the page.
