Keeping watch
The great tale of a surgeon (Dr. Zbigniew Religa) who performed the first heart transplant in Poland. The picture tells a powerful tale about perseverance and commitment. The fatigue and angst are clearly visible and although it seems that the patient (who outlived the surgeon) has not survived, the surgeon is just keeping an eye on the vital signs. His co-worker has fallen asleep in the corner.
National Geograhic’s best picture of 1987 by James Stansfield.
